Payments 101

What is a merchant account?

A merchant account is a relationship between a retailer and a merchant bank. This allows merchants to accept credit card and debit card payments from customers. Furthermore, if you are a business owner who is accepting credit cards (or intends to accept credit cards) then you are in fact, a merchant.

Why should my business accept credit cards?

Merchant sales in most industries increase by an average of 35-50% upon offering credit card transactions to their customers.

What type of hardware or software do I need to process credit card transactions?

In today’s business climate there are thousands of equipment options for merchants to select from. You can process on a tablet, smartphone, online, virtually, through a POS system, or a traditional countertop terminal. Our experts offer a free consultation where we will advise you on the most efficient and cost-effective option to maximize your business efficiency.

What types of businesses can Allegiant process payments for?

We process nearly any business industry on earth. We will not process gentleman’s clubs, and other select businesses.

Do I have to be approved? What is the time frame for being able to start accepting credit cards after approval?

Yes, payment processors must approve all merchants for processing. The time frame can vary based upon industry, risk-assessment, volume of processing, and many other factors.

Will I have a cancellation fee with my current provider if i switch to Allegiant?

Most processing agreements include length of contract terms. These agreements have varying lengths and amounts. At APS, we will go over these implications to ensure that switching your processing provider is in your best interest.

How do you support your customers?

We assign every business an account executive specifically assigned to that merchant. Additionally we offer an industry-standard, toll-free 24/7 customer support service. No matter what time of the time day, APS merchants have confidence that they will get the service that every merchant deserves.

Will I receive a monthly statement or invoice?

Yes, much like any bank statement, you will receive a merchant statement from WorldPay and/or Clearent each month. These can be delivered via email or traditional mail depending on your preference.
